1861 Vintage Base Ball Rules Rules (Abridged)
-The pitcher delivers the ball underhand (below the shoulder) from 45 feet
-The pitcher may pitch the ball with a high degree of speed and spin.
-No called strikes, unless a batter is deliberately taking pitches
-There is only one Umpire. His decision is final and there is no arguing.
-Stealing is allowed after pitcher releases the ball. Leading is not allowed.
-Fielders do not wear gloves.
-An out is recorded if the ball is caught on the first bound or on the fly either in fair or foul territory.
-A ball is determined to be fair or foul depending on where it first struck the ground.
-A striker (batter) can be tagged out for overrunning first base.
-Unsportsmanlike conduct is not tolerated.
